Important Items to Consider
STUDENT EVALUATIONS OF INSTRUCTION
Toward the end of the semester, your students will be given the opportunity to submit evaluations for you and your class; they will receive email notifications for how to use our digital SmartEvals system and the window during which the system will be open. Participation is voluntary, but you might consider incentivizing them to complete the evaluation by offering some time at the beginning of a class period, awarding extra credit for some percentage of the class responding by the due date, etc. Explain that you as the instructor will not be able to see their evaluations until after the course is over. You can learn all about SmartEvals here.. In particular, if you’d like to add your own questions specific to your course or course activities, you can find the directions for doing so here.
Please note that you are not limited to using SmartEvals alone. This resource offers numerous ideas for additional formative and summative assessments.
FINAL EXAMS
Final exams periods cannot be cancelled and must be utilized for a class-relevant activity, such as an exam, student presentations, turning in papers, reviewing exam results, etc. It is important that no undergraduate final exams may be offered in the week prior to finals week simply to avoid meeting during the final examination period. Note that your final exam may be scheduled at a different date or time than when your class typically meets. The final exam schedule can be found on the Registrar's webpage.
FINAL GRADING
Final grades for all classes are typically due to the Office of the Registrar by end of day on the Tuesday following the end of the grading period. However, grades for graduating students are due the Thursday of finals week by 10 am, or on the Friday of finals week by 10 am in the event of a scheduled Friday final.
TURNING IN KEYS
If you received any university keys, please turn them in to your supervisor prior to leaving the university. If you are expected to return to teach for the next semester, you may be allowed to retain your keys.
EMAIL/ACCOUNT ACCESS
Provided that the Faculty Member completes the semester without plans to return to UIndy, UIndy account access will terminate fourteen days after final grades are due in order to allow for grade submissions, student grade disputes, etc. If the faculty member leaves UIndy before the semester ends, access will terminate on the last day worked as determined by the supervisor.
Employees whose employment is ending but will remain actively enrolled in classes will be required to continue their student work with a new UIndy account.
