Get minimum recommendations for student-owned laptops

The following are the minimum recommended specifications and will not meet the requirements for all academic programs at UIndy. If your current computer does not meet or exceed all the specifications below, you may experience difficulties fully participating in course work. You may always opt to use one of the computer labs if you are on campus.  

Chromebooks cannot be used for the following programs that use Examsoft testing software: Nursing, College of Health Sciences. 

You should check with your department or advisor to make sure your computer will meet any specific requirements for your program.  

Minimum Hardware

  • Processor: For Windows computers, Intel Core i5, For Apple computers M1 or better (can use Intel)
  • Memory: Minimum of 8 GB of RAM, more is better
  • Storage: 256 GB or more

Minimum Operating System

Internet Browser

Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari can all be used to access online resources.  Any of these browsers should be kept up to date using the automatic update features within the browser.  

Antivirus

UIndy IT recommend the following options:

Antivirus is required for all computers used on the campus network.

Malware Protection

Many people experience more problems with malware instead of viruses interfering with their computers.
